Isles of Scilly

On a whim, my friend Rachel and I decided to move to St. Mary’s, The Isles of Scilly for the summer season of 2022.

We had originally settled on the idea of Tresco but were contacted by a recruitment agency looking for people to work in a 4-star hotel on St. Mary’s. After three interviews, an overnight stay in Penzance and the world’s most petrifying flight for Rachel, we arrived at St. Mary’s Airport.

The date was February 20th, it was freezing cold and my leg felt permanently bruised from Rachel’s harsh grip during the tin-can plane journey.

Nevertheless, we’d made it. Hello, St. Mary’s!

Turns out that I’m still bad at finding the camera lens…

What to Expect on the Isles of Scilly

Outstandingly beautiful, uncrowded and unspoilt. - www.visitislesofscilly.com

The Isles of Scilly are a world unto themselves and are located just off the coast of Cornwall.

There are five inhabited islands - St. Mary's, Tresco, St. Martin's, Bryher and St. Agnes, plus a fair few uninhabited ones to explore. Each island has its own distinct characteristics and flaunts some amazing archaeology. Like something out of a film, Scilly has extensive sea views that go on for miles, rugged undeveloped coasts and incredible wildlife.

There’s so much to enjoy on the islands including coastal walks, bike rides, boat trips, endless beaches, live music and pilot gig races! Not to mention hand-made products, arts and crafts, freshly caught lobster, tender island-reared beef, organic products and melt-in-your-mouth icecreams. All shops, cafes and restaurants are local, unique and unmatched.

So if you fancy a break from the hustle and bustle of the mainland, submerge yourself in the Scilly way of life.

You won’t even believe you’re in the UK.
