What is a PADI Divemaster?

A lot of people look at me quite confused when I tell them I’m a Divemaster. What does that mean? What does that involve? Is that the same as an instructor? So I just wanted to write a quick overview of what becoming a PADI Divemaster is all about and how it can be the start of a very promising professional diving career!

What is a PADI Divemaster?

The PADI Divemaster certification is the very first step on the PADI Professional ladder. Gaining this certification allows you to supervise both training and non-training related activities, assist in various programmes, lead recreational dives, conduct dive briefings, conduct scuba review programmes, teach and certify both skin divers and snorkelers. Quite a lot, right?

How to Become a PADI Divemaster!

Before even contemplating achieving the PADI Divemaster certification, you first need to meet some diver prerequisites, these are:

  • PADI Open & Advanced Open Water Diver

  • EFR Primary & Secondary Care Training within 24 months

  • PADI Rescue Diver

  • 40 logged dives (60 at the time of course completion)

  • Medical evaluation & clearance for diving by a certified physician within 12 months

Who Can Be a PADI Divemaster?

As long as you’re over the age of 18 and meet all the above criteria, then anyone can become a PADI Divemaster!

If you’re thinking about taking the Divemaster course, currently taking the course or even if you’ve already done it, then I want to hear from you!
